CHICAGO, October 14, 2024 – GE HealthCare will donate medical equipment valued at more than $1 million, including hand-held ultrasound devices, respirators, patient monitors, a portable X-Ray system and more to Assist International. Assist International, a global nonprofit organization dedicated to providing life-saving solutions and building resilient communities around the world, will make the equipment available to healthcare providers in need in communities hard hit by Hurricanes Helene and Milton.
“GE HealthCare is committed to removing barriers and extending access to critical resources in our communities,” said Rana Strellis, Chief Corporate Marketing and Communications Officer, GE HealthCare. “Today, many communities, including those of our own colleagues, are struggling to recover from the devastation brought by Hurricane Helene and so quickly afterward by Hurricane Milton. Hospitals and health systems suffered damage that presents significant challenges to meeting the needs of their patients. We are hopeful that these product donations will help bridge some of these gaps and aid in their recovery efforts.”
The GE HealthCare Foundation, a charitable organization incorporated separately from GE HealthCare, will donate $200,000 to humanitarian aid, including hurricane relief efforts. It will donate $150,000 to the American Red Cross to support the ongoing relief and recovery efforts in the affected regions. The funds will help provide emergency assistance, including shelter, food, and medical care, to those impacted by the hurricanes. In addition, the Foundation will provide an unrestricted grant of $50,000 to Assist International to support its humanitarian relief efforts in the US and abroad. The Foundation also will provide matching gifts for donations by colleagues based in the US that will enable them to extend the impact of their individual contributions to relief efforts.
The GE HealthCare Foundation launched in March 2024, announcing a focus on advancing equitable access to precision healthcare with an initial emphasis on improving maternal health outcomes to build upon the more than 100-year legacy of the GE Foundation.
